Planning a Busan trip around films and actors? The 2026 Busan International Film Festival runs from 6–15 October. Start with the screening or talk you want, secure its ticket, and then plan your neighbourhood and meals around the actual venue. Official BIFF English website.

BIFF 2026 booking has opened

17 September, 14:00 KST: opening/closing, Open Cinema, Midnight Passion, Actors’ House and Community BIFF.
21 September, 14:00 KST: general screenings, Master Class and Cine Class.
KST is Korea Standard Time, UTC+9. Confirm the category and time on the official ticket page.

Book through the official ticket portal. The booking guide limits purchases to two tickets per screening code. An opening date is not a promise of remaining seats: choose a second screening before you begin. Opening dates and this limit rechecked 24 September 2026.

The film’s actual finish depends on its running time, and operations may change. Arrive for admission rather than the film start. Large suitcases are not permitted, and photography during screenings is prohibited. Official ceremony timetable and entry rules.

Which films should you start with?

The announced opening film is The Table: Day and Night, directed by Kim Jong-kwan. Use the official opening-film listing for the film details. The closing presentation is scheduled to feature the Busan Award Best Film winner; its title is not yet known. Closing ceremony information.

For your remaining choices, filter the official programme by your interests, screening date and venue. Read the subtitle line for each film: an English booking website does not guarantee English subtitles for every screening. Allow time between venues and avoid booking overlapping sessions just because both tickets appear available.

Choose your programme: films, conversations or an evening out

For a first visit, browse Korean Cinema Today or A Window on Asian Cinema; compare World Cinema for a broader selection. Open Cinema and Midnight Passion are alternatives when you want the screening to anchor your evening. Check each title’s venue, age rating and subtitle information in the official programme.

Master Classes with English listed

The four sessions in the table below are at Culture Hall, 9F, Shinsegae Centum City, priced at ₩15,000. An additional session with Alfonso Cuarón runs on 8 October, 12:30–14:00, at Busan Cinema Center Cinema 1 (code 815; ₩15,000; English and Korean listed). Do not confuse the two venues. The official language listing includes English; confirm arrangements before booking.

How to book Busan International Film Festival tickets online

  1. Open the official ticket portal. Register afresh, verify your email and set a six-digit numeric password, even if you booked last year.
  2. In Book Now, find your film by date or screening code.
  3. Select seats and the price, then complete card payment.
  4. Check the reservation confirmation and mobile ticket before travelling.

Use Chrome with pop-ups enabled. Cancellation closes 60 minutes before the screening; fees depend on timing. Full booking instructions.

Booking opened 17 September at 14:00 KST for ceremonies, Open Cinema, Midnight Passion, Actors’ House and Community BIFF; 21 September at 14:00 KST for general screenings, Master Class and Cine Class. On-site sales are for remaining or cancelled seats, so do not rely on walking up for a popular session. Official booking-opening announcement.

How to plan your first BIFF visit without overbooking

You do not need to work through the entire programme. Start with the time you actually have in Busan, then build a small shortlist. These planning suggestions adapt a community visitor’s tips shared with us by the publisher; they are not a claim that we attended those screenings.

  1. Choose your available dates first. Browse the official schedule for those days, read the film summaries and check the language and subtitle details for each screening. An appealing film is only a useful choice if you can follow it and reach its venue.
  2. Prepare your booking account before choosing seats. Complete the current year’s registration and keep access to your verification email. Booking has already opened, so focus on available sessions rather than the original release-day rush.
  3. Save the exact screening code. Record the title, date, time, venue and code for each preferred session, plus a backup. The same film can have different codes for different screenings; copy the code from the official timetable, not just the film title.
  4. Decide what makes this screening special to you. You might prioritise a film that is hard to see at home, or a listed guest Q&A. GV means a guest visit or discussion associated with a screening. Check the specific session’s announcement and language arrangements; do not assume every showing includes a guest. A popular film with a later cinema release can be your backup if a festival-only opportunity interests you more.
  5. Leave room between films. Two venues in Centum City are not necessarily next door. Check the walking route, building entrance and auditorium floor, then add time for queues, the toilet and a break. There is no single transfer time that works for every pair of venues. Include any scheduled discussion when checking for overlaps.
  6. Plan meals and comfort breaks. Set aside a meal window rather than hoping to squeeze lunch between consecutive screenings. Our suggestion is to eat near the next venue, consider an earlier meal and keep a second nearby option in case of a queue. Bring a light layer for the auditorium and a charged phone for your ticket.

A simple shortlist: one must-see screening, one optional session and one backup. Keep the rest of the day flexible. Community reading in Korean — the publisher supplied an excerpt; the full page was not independently accessible. Use the official BIFF links in this guide for current booking and entry rules.

BIFF 2026 practical tips: sold-out tickets, entry and early screenings

Booking and admission guidance checked 23 September 2026. Individual seat availability has not been verified.

If your first choice is sold out

Check the official portal again for cancellations, or compare another screening of the film. Festival ticket boxes sell remaining or cancelled seats; a walk-up ticket is not guaranteed. Standard seats are sold online, so do not assume there is a separate public allocation held back for the day. Buy through official channels rather than private resale.

Before cancelling, check the cost: cancellation closes 60 minutes before the screening. It is free six or more days ahead; later fees depend on the date and ticket category. Printed tickets must be returned to a ticket box. Official availability and refund rules.

Your ticket screenshot is not an entry ticket

Present the valid mobile ticket or a paper ticket. BIFF does not accept mobile-ticket screenshots or booking-confirmation emails/messages for admission. Our practical suggestion: charge your phone and open the actual ticket before reaching the entrance. If you need paper, show the mobile ticket at a BIFF ticket box.

General screening admission normally starts 15 minutes beforehand, subject to on-site conditions. Photography and recording are prohibited during films, trailers and end credits; follow staff instructions for guest events. Official theatre rules.

Early screening before the department store opens?

  • CGV Centum City, 7F: use department-store Gate 3 near Centum City Station Exit 12 and Hall Elevator 3, or Gate 4 toward SpaLand and Hall Elevator 4.
  • LOTTE CINEMA Centum City, 8F: from the first-floor main entrance near subway Exit 8, use the far-left doors and elevators on the left.

These are different cinemas. Check the venue on your ticket and follow festival signage. Official early-access directions.

Keep a simple backup plan

Our suggested approach: anchor the day around one confirmed screening. Leave time for walking, queues and any scheduled talk; choose a meal nearby. If another ticket is unavailable, take a Centum-area walk or plan a separate Haeundae outing. For dishes and useful Korean ordering phrases, use our Busan food guide.

Getting to BIFF: Centum City and Nampo-dong

What I like about building a trip around BIFF is that the setting gives you a good day even outside the screening room. Busan Cinema Center’s architecture is part of the appeal, and the nearby Suyeong River adds a walking option when the weather is kind. Shinsegae Centum City works for shopping or food; Haeundae and Gwangalli are separate outings you can connect by metro or taxi.

I’d choose one of those extras around a film, rather than trying to fit in both beaches and a shopping trip between screenings. The ticket-booking process is approachable once you’ve chosen a programme, but popular films and special events can sell out. An easy-to-use website isn’t a promise of an available seat.

For the Busan Cinema Center (영화의전당), use 120 Suyeonggangbyeon-daero, Haeundae-gu. Centum City on Metro Line 2 is the relevant district stop; navigate from there to the building or entrance on your ticket. Actors’ House is in Shinsegae’s Culture Hall, a different destination from a Cinema Center auditorium.

Busan Cinema Center map · Actors’ House venue map · Official BIFF venue guide

BIFF Square in Nampo is across the city. It is an interesting sightseeing stop, but the name alone is not a reason to travel there for your ticketed screening. Read the venue before leaving your hotel.

Where to eat between films

For a short gap, I’d keep the meal at the department store or around Cinema Center. With a genuinely free afternoon, I’d consider Haeridan-gil or Gwangalli for a different atmosphere. Count the journey back before joining a restaurant queue: lunch shouldn’t become the reason you miss the film you came for.

For a short gap, stay in the Centum City area and check the current dining options in the department-store complex. Allow for queues and the walk back to the correct auditorium. A proper Haeundae beach meal is better scheduled before or after your block of screenings, not squeezed between closely timed films.

Haeundae Halmaejip (해운대 할매집) is one option for a separate beach outing: the checked listing shows pork soup at ₩9,500. It is at 7 Jungdong 2-ro 10beon-gil, not next to the Cinema Center. Menu listing · Map search.

Where to stay for BIFF

Centum City: a practical choice when multiple screenings dominate your trip. Location candidates include Centum Premier Hotel (17 Centum 1-ro) and Haeundae Centum Hotel (20 Centum 3-ro). These are location-based suggestions, not claims of inspected rooms or festival affiliation.

Haeundae: consider it for a beach-led trip with some film sessions. Seomyeon: consider it for a broader city itinerary. Compare your last screening time with the return journey. Room rates and availability depend on dates and occupancy; check the booking total and cancellation conditions directly.

A manageable festival day

Choose one screening and one talk, if both fit your interests and language needs. Have a meal in the same district, then leave an unbooked buffer. A river-side or Centum-area walk can fill spare time; a cross-city market excursion can wait for a different day. If a talk sells out, choose another public programme through BIFF’s official schedule rather than relying on unofficial resale promises.

For the latest stage greetings and talks beyond Actors’ House, consult BIFF’s event announcement. This guide highlights useful starting points rather than reproducing the entire festival programme.

BIFF sightseeing itineraries: Shinsegae Centum City, Haeundae and Gwangalli

Build sightseeing around the venue and finish time printed on your confirmed ticket. The routes below are our suggested plans, not official festival tours. Pick one beach on a busy screening day; use the two-day version if you want all three stops without rushing.

1. Film-first route: Shinsegae Centum City + your screening

Centum City Station → Shinsegae lunch or shopping → your BIFF venue. This is our simplest pairing for a day with more than one film. Shinsegae connects directly to Metro Line 2’s Centum City Station. Its main department-store building has CGV on 7F and Culture Hall on 9F; Busan Cinema Center is a separate building. Read your ticket before choosing an entrance.

Choose a meal or browse the shops, then allow time to reach the correct auditorium. Avoid scheduling a lengthy shopping or spa visit before a tightly timed screening. Check the official store and floor guide for your date: department-store, restaurant, cinema and spa hours can differ, and specific closure dates have not been verified here.

2. Beach-morning route: Haeundae + an afternoon film

Haeundae Station → Gunam-ro → Haeundae Beach → lunch → Centum City → screening. Start with a relaxed seafront walk and photographs, then eat before heading back to the station. Visit Busan lists roughly 15 minutes on foot from Haeundae Station Exit 5 to the beach; allow more for stops. Haeundae and Centum City are on Metro Line 2.

If your screening is early or you want to explore further, move the beach outing to another day. Our Haeundae neighbourhood guide helps you choose an extra stop. Official beach information.

3. Film-then-night-view route: Centum City + Gwangalli

Finish your film and any scheduled discussion → dinner → Gwangalli Beach for bridge views. Use Metro Line 2 to Gwangan Station, then walk to the waterfront. Visit Busan lists about 13 minutes from Exit 5; this is the station-to-beach walk, not the entire journey from your cinema. Choose a seafront cafe or a promenade stroll according to the weather and your energy.

Do not assume a drone performance happens every evening. Read our Gwangalli drone-show guide and the organiser’s date-specific notice before timing your trip around it. For a late film, save Gwangalli for another night and check your return transport. Official Gwangalli visitor information.

Want all three? A flexible two-day plan

  • Day 1: Shinsegae Centum City lunch or shopping, one confirmed afternoon screening, then Gwangalli dinner and a waterfront walk if the film finishes comfortably early.
  • Day 2: Haeundae Beach and Gunam-ro in the morning, a relaxed lunch, then either another BIFF session or more beach-area sightseeing.

One-day alternative: Haeundae in the morning → Shinsegae lunch → one afternoon screening → Gwangalli in the evening. Treat this as a full sightseeing day with only one film, not a target to complete at any cost. Check the actual film duration, any guest discussion, transfer route and return transport before committing.

Plan B: rain, queues or a longer-than-expected session

  • Rain or strong wind: shorten the beach walk and stay around Centum City for indoor shopping or a meal, subject to opening hours.
  • A long restaurant queue: choose another nearby option and keep enough time to return to your auditorium.
  • A late finish: drop the second beach rather than rushing between districts. No beach stop is essential to enjoying the festival.

Walking times above are official visitor-guide estimates, not guaranteed door-to-door transfers. Check a live route from your exact venue. Food ideas: what to eat in Busan and how to order.
