Chuseok in Busan 2026: Events, Closures & Sold-Out Train Tips

By Busan Fieldguide

BUSAN IN SEPTEMBER · CHUSEOK 2026 ARCHIVE

A holiday in Busan can mean a moonlit drone show, street percussion and dinner beside the river. It can also mean a sold-out train and your first-choice restaurant taking a break. Build the trip around one evening event, a confirmed journey and a flexible meal plan.

By Kwak.kamoly · Event notices checked 18 September 2026; the specific holiday-opening examples below checked 24 September 2026. All times below are Korea Standard Time. Archive photographs illustrate the atmosphere, not a record of every event in the programme.

The quick plan

Chuseok Day is Friday, 25 September 2026; the three-day holiday runs 24–26 September, followed by Sunday 27 September. Reserve your intercity transport first. On Saturday, choose Gwangalli’s drone show or Gwangbok-ro’s music show. Save the night market for Sunday if you want a less rushed route.

1. Gwangalli: a Chuseok drone show over the beach

The special Hangawi Moonlit Banquet is scheduled for 26 September at 20:00, with 3,000 drones and lasers. There is one performance: do not rely on the regular Saturday timetable. The notice lists road controls from 19:00 to 21:00 between the SUP-zone intersection and Millak Hoe Town, plus a Wi-Fi suspension from 17:00 to 21:00. Save your meeting point and route in advance. Wind, rain or communication problems may cause cancellation. Official special-show notice.

Our route suggestion: spend the afternoon around Gwangalli, eat before the viewing crowd builds and approach on foot from the metro rather than depending on a last-minute beachfront taxi. Use Gwangalli Beach on Google Maps to orient yourself; follow event barriers and staff directions on arrival. Keep access lanes clear and avoid stopping on the road for a photograph.

If it is cancelled: keep the evening local with a meal or café, provided it is open; do not cross the city hoping to catch another event already underway. For viewing choices and boat-booking cautions, read our Gwangalli drone-show guide. A yacht booking does not guarantee that the drones will fly.

2. Gwangbok-ro: Korean music in the streets of Nampo

On 26 September, 19:00–21:00, the Balcony Music Show takes place near Busan Brand Shop, 87-1 Gwangbok-ro. The announced performers are Supia (수피아), with fusion Korean traditional music, and Soribadi (풍물패 소리바디), with pungmul and samulnori percussion. This is the stronger choice if you want to hear Korean instruments and stay around the old-town streets. Official programme.

Pair it with: an afternoon around Nampo and Bosu-dong Book Street, then an early meal. Individual bookshops and market stalls may take holiday breaks, so treat the neighbourhood walk as the core activity. Map the performance area and use Nampo as your metro anchor. This overlaps the drone show: choose one, rather than planning to see both.

3. Starry Night Busan: dinner and an evening by the river

The 2026 night market runs 26 September–18 October at the lotus-pond area beside Hwamyeong Auto Camping Ground in Hwamyeong Ecological Park. During this holiday weekend, opening hours are Saturday 17:00–22:00 and Sunday 16:00–21:00. It has not opened yet on 24–25 September. The programme includes food trucks, traditional drinks, picnic areas and selected hands-on activities; some require advance or on-site registration. Food and activity spending depends on what you choose. Official dates and programme · Activity reservations.

Getting there: the park is large. Search for 화명생태공원 연꽃단지, not just “Hwamyeong Park.” Use the official address, 1425 Nakdonggangjajeongeo-gil, Buk-gu, and check the final walking approach in a local map app before choosing your metro stop. Open the lotus-pond area on Google Maps. Save the return route while you have a connection.

Our pick: go on Sunday after a slow morning. Wear comfortable shoes and bring a light layer for sitting by the river. If food queues are too long, buy one snack and move your main meal to an open restaurant near your accommodation. This is a separate outing from Gwangalli, not a quick walk between venues.

KTX sold out for Chuseok? Try this order

Do not pay for a non-refundable hotel or event connection before confirming how you will get there. A route shown in a search is not a booking: check that payment completed and that you have a valid ticket for every leg.

  1. Change the departure time or travel day. Search earlier and later departures, then an adjacent date if your trip allows. Recheck the official booking service for released seats, but do not treat cancellation seats as guaranteed.
  2. Compare other train services shown by the operator. A slower service can be a workable alternative if it actually serves your route. Check the station, arrival time and luggage arrangements. Never board a sold-out train assuming you can buy a ticket onboard.
  3. Consider a connection only when both legs are available. Leave a generous transfer margin and check whether you must change stations. Two separately booked trains are not an automatic protected connection.
  4. Compare an express bus. KOBUS is the official express-bus booking portal and offers English. Match the exact departure and arrival terminals; a Busan terminal is not necessarily beside Busan Station. Holiday traffic can make a road journey much longer than the normal estimate. Avoid using it as a tight connection to an international flight.
  5. Check a domestic flight. Compare Seoul-area departure airports carefully and search for Busan’s Gimhae Airport (PUS). Include checked baggage, airport transfers and check-in time when comparing cost. Check live availability directly with an airline such as Air Busan; this guide does not promise seats or a particular fare.
  6. Keep your current base for another night. If every realistic option is poor, changing the sightseeing order is often a better holiday than spending the day chasing uncertain tickets.

For the usual booking flow and airport-versus-station comparison, use our Seoul to Busan transport guide. Arriving by air? Save the Gimhae Airport transfer guide. Screenshot your ticket, exact terminal name and hotel address before departure.

What closes during Chuseok?

There is no single closure rule for all of Busan. A neighbourhood can be busy while one family-run restaurant closes for several days. Regular weekly hours are not proof of holiday opening.

  • Restaurants and cafés: check the business’s holiday notice or call the same day. Save two nearby alternatives. Ask “추석 연휴에 영업하세요?” — “Are you open during the Chuseok holiday?”
  • Museums and ticketed attractions: check the exact date on the institution’s own notice. We have not labelled an attraction “open” solely because its normal timetable says so.
  • Markets: do not interpret an open street as a promise that every stall is trading. Buy any special food you want earlier and ask about the next day’s hours.
  • Outdoor plans: a beach promenade can provide a flexible walk, but weather warnings, event controls and facility closures still apply.

Useful Plan B: choose a walk near your hotel and one confirmed-open indoor stop, rather than building a rainy day around several unverified venues. For a broader shortlist, see our first-trip Busan picks. Choose accommodation around the journey you have actually booked with our neighbourhood guide.

How to enjoy Chuseok alongside local families

Chuseok is a major harvest and family holiday. You do not need access to a private family gathering to enjoy it. Public music, seasonal food and a relaxed evening outside are welcoming starting points.

  • Try songpyeon. Ask an open rice-cake shop for a small portion of the traditional filled rice cakes. Fillings vary; ask about sesame, nuts or other ingredients if you have allergies. Do not assume every variety is suitable for your diet.
  • Choose a public performance. The Gwangbok-ro percussion programme is a concrete option this year. Watch where the audience gathers, follow staff instructions and ask before taking close-up photographs of people.
  • Share the space. Keep picnic areas tidy, leave room for families and older visitors, and avoid blocking a view with a tripod. A friendly greeting is “즐거운 추석 보내세요” — “Have a lovely Chuseok.”
  • Keep meals flexible. For a filling local meal, use our Busan food and ordering guide, then confirm the chosen restaurant’s holiday hours. Recommendations are not reservations.

A realistic four-day holiday outline

Thursday 24 September: travel only on a confirmed ticket, check in and explore near your accommodation. Confirm the next day’s meal options. Keep the first evening free of a must-catch show.

Friday 25 September: make Chuseok Day your flexible day. Choose a coastal walk or neighbourhood outing suited to the weather, buy a small seasonal treat where available and leave space for closures. Do not schedule the night market today.

Saturday 26 September: choose an east-side Gwangalli afternoon plus the 20:00 drone show, or a Nampo afternoon plus the 19:00–21:00 music programme. Have an early dinner and a clear meeting point.

Sunday 27 September: if you are staying in Busan, try the night market from 16:00. If you are leaving, let the confirmed departure take priority: do not squeeze a cross-city outing into the margin before a train or flight.

Before you leave the hotel

Check the organiser’s latest notice, today’s weather, your return transport, a confirmed-open meal option and your phone battery. Download or screenshot the information you need. The most useful holiday plan is one that still works when a single stop changes.
