Landing at Gimhae International Airport? Start with the station nearest your accommodation, rather than simply searching for “Busan.” Seomyeon, Haeundae and Nampo require different journeys. This guide explains rail routes via Sasang and helps you decide when a taxi may be more practical.
Save the Korean name of your hotel and its nearest station before you land. For a late arrival, check the whole connection through to your destination, not just the last airport train.
At a glance: choose your destination
| Destination | Rail route from Airport station | Transfers |
|---|---|---|
| Seomyeon | Light rail to Sasang → Metro Line 2 to Seomyeon | 1 |
| Haeundae | Light rail to Sasang → Metro Line 2 to Haeundae | 1 |
| Nampo | Light rail to Sasang → Line 2 to Seomyeon → Line 1 to Nampo | 2 |
These are routes to the named stations, not door-to-door hotel directions. Before travelling, save your accommodation’s Korean address and nearest station. A booking described as “Haeundae” or “Nampo” may be closer to a neighbouring stop.
From arrivals to the train: which terminal door?
Collect your bags and check whether you are in the domestic or international terminal. The airport’s numbered doors are your first landmark. Here, “Gate” means a terminal exit on the arrivals side, not an aircraft boarding gate.

The Sasang transfer, without the guesswork
- Leave the light-rail train at Sasang / 사상. Follow signs for Metro Line 2 / 도시철도 2호선 through the interchange, keeping your card or ticket ready for the gates. With bags, follow the lift route.
- On Line 2, choose the Jangsan / 장산 direction. Gamjeon / 감전 is the next station on this side—a useful second check before boarding.
- For Haeundae, stay on Line 2 through Seomyeon. For Nampo, change at Seomyeon to Line 1 towards Dadaepo Beach / 다대포해수욕장; the next stop is Beomnaegol / 범내골.
At a transfer station, look for your next line before looking for a street exit. Exit numbers become useful when you reach your final stop and are ready to walk to the hotel.
Walking to Haeundae Beach? Visit Busan lists Haeundae Station Exit 5 and about 15 minutes on foot in its beach directions. For check-in, use your hotel’s pin instead. With a suitcase, follow lift signs even if the lift brings you out at a different exit.
Wayfinding sources checked 26 September 2026: Korea Airports Corporation’s domestic terminal guide and international terminal guide; Busan Metro’s full English route map. Follow on-site signs for temporary diversions.
How much time should you leave?
Start the clock when you leave the arrivals hall with your bags. Immigration and baggage collection come before these allowances.
| To the central station area | Our rail planning allowance | Main decision |
|---|---|---|
| Seomyeon | About 45–60 minutes | One transfer at Sasang. |
| Haeundae | About 75–100 minutes | A longer Line 2 ride; avoid a tight first-day booking. |
| Nampo | About 60–80 minutes | Two transfers on the route shown; compare a taxi with heavy bags. |
These are generous editorial planning windows for walking to the light rail, waiting and changing trains, not operator timetables or measured journeys. Add the walk to your hotel, and check a live journey planner for your arrival time.
Fares: separate the airport leg from the metro
Busan Metro lists adult transport-card fares of ₩1,600 for section 1 and ₩1,800 for section 2; single QR tickets are ₩1,700 and ₩1,900. These are metro fares, not the total airport-to-hotel fare. The light rail has separate fares and transfer rules.
For later sightseeing, four separate metro journeys would cost ₩6,400–₩7,200 per adult at those card fares, excluding the card itself. For your airport arrival, check the complete route fare and use the same eligible card throughout any transfer arrangement.
How to pay: transport card or a separate ticket?
For the route via Sasang, a preloaded Tmoney card is a straightforward option. Visit Busan lists Tmoney among the cards used in the Busan and Gimhae area. Use your own card for each traveller and tap it at the entry and exit gates. Keep enough balance for the complete airport journey, not just the metro fare above.
Bring some Korean won for top-ups. Tmoney’s foreigner guide explains how to reload a physical card by presenting it with won cash at a Tmoney sales location. A foreign bank card and a Tmoney card are different things; having paid for a hotel by card does not mean you have loaded your transport balance.
Without a transport card: use the station ticket machines and follow the ticket instructions for each operator. Busan Metro sells single QR tickets; a metro QR ticket does not cover the airport light-rail leg. Check the payment logos on the machine or ask station staff before relying on a particular foreign card.
Payment sources checked 28 September 2026: Visit Busan transport guide, Tmoney foreigner guide and Busan Metro ticket guide.
Metro fare table checked 28 September 2026: Busan Transportation Corporation. Late-night taxis, larger vehicles and journeys outside the metro require a separate estimate.
First leg: Airport station to Sasang
Follow the airport signs for the Busan–Gimhae Light Rail Transit. At Airport station, choose the direction towards Sasang. At Sasang, follow the transfer signs for Busan Metro Line 2. The light rail and metro are separate services, so allow time to walk between them and follow the gates and ticket instructions.
The airport’s official subway guide confirms the Line 2 connection at Sasang; it also shows an alternative Line 3 connection at Daejeo. The routes here use Sasang to keep the comparison straightforward.
Gimhae Airport to Seomyeon
At Sasang, take Line 2 towards Jangsan and get off at Seomyeon. You do not need to change to Line 1 for Seomyeon itself. After leaving the train, check your hotel location before choosing an exit: the most convenient exit for shopping may not be the best one with a suitcase.
For arrival day, keep your first plans close to your accommodation. Check-in, a meal and a short neighbourhood walk leave more flexibility than a timed attraction booking immediately after your flight.
Gimhae Airport to Haeundae
At Sasang, take Line 2 towards Jangsan and continue to Haeundae. You stay on Line 2 through Seomyeon. Check the train’s destination display before boarding to make sure it continues to your stop.
For a Haeundae hotel, confirm whether Haeundae Station is actually the nearest stop. A hotel advertised under the wider district name may require a different final stop or onward ride.
Gimhae Airport to Nampo
Take Line 2 from Sasang towards Jangsan, then change at Seomyeon to Line 1 towards Dadaepo Beach. Get off at Nampo. Visit Busan’s official Line 1 guide places Seomyeon and Nampo on this line.
This route involves two transfers. If your accommodation is near Jagalchi or Jungang instead, use its actual nearest station when planning. With children, limited mobility or bulky luggage, the extra transfer is a useful reason to compare a direct taxi.
Rail or taxi: choose by people, bags and arrival time
My choice after a flight: go to the hotel first
If the budget allows, I would take a taxi from Gimhae Airport straight to the hotel, leave the luggage and start exploring from there. For me, that is a worthwhile bit of arrival-day comfort. It is a convenience preference, not a claim that a taxi will always be faster or better value.
I do not find travelling with a suitcase inherently difficult on the airport route, but the transfers matter more when you are tired or carrying several bags. If you choose rail, use the route diagram above and plan the final walk to your actual hotel. Either way, I would avoid making the first sightseeing stop double as a luggage workout. Confirm bag storage if you arrive before check-in.
City buses and dedicated airport coaches can have different baggage arrangements. Before choosing a bus, check the exact service’s current route, luggage rules and storage space. If you can’t establish that your bags can travel with you, pick a confirmed rail or taxi option instead.
| Arrival situation | Our starting choice | Decision before leaving the terminal |
|---|---|---|
| One or two travellers, manageable bags, services running | Light rail via Sasang. | Save the hotel’s nearest station and final walking route. Seomyeon and Haeundae need one transfer; Nampo needs two on the route shown here. |
| Family or group with several large cases | Compare a direct taxi with the total rail cost for everyone. | Confirm the vehicle can carry both passengers and luggage. Do not assume every standard taxi fits a group and all of its cases. |
| Limited mobility or a stroller | Check lift access for each rail leg, or compare a suitable taxi. | A short map distance may hide stairs or a long station passage. Ask the hotel which entrance provides the easiest arrival. |
| Late arrival after baggage collection | Use rail only when the complete connection remains possible. | If any onward leg has finished, use the official taxi option and notify the accommodation about check-in. |
Save these station names
공항 Airport → 사상 Sasang → 서면 Seomyeon / 해운대 Haeundae. For 남포 Nampo, change once more at Seomyeon to Line 1 in the 다대포해수욕장 Dadaepo Beach direction. The train destination is not necessarily your own stop: Jangsan is the Line 2 direction used for the routes above.
Example: a flight landing at 22:00 does not mean you reach the train at 22:00. Plan from the time you actually clear arrivals, then check Sasang and, for Nampo, Seomyeon as separate connections. This example does not establish a last-train time.
Cost comparison: add every rail leg for every passenger, then compare that total with the taxi estimate for a vehicle that fits your party. Keep airport parking, hotel pickup fees or larger-vehicle charges separate if quoted. We do not present an unverified taxi estimate as a fixed fare.
Official route basis: Gimhae Airport rail connections, rechecked 24 September 2026. Use the airport’s transport pages for current bus and taxi information.
Tickets, travel cards and luggage
Visit Busan lists transport cards and station ticket options in its public transport guide. Its metro commuter passes do not cover the Busan–Gimhae Light Rail. Do not assume that buying a metro day pass also pays for the airport leg. First and last services vary by station.
Keep your ticket or card accessible during transfers. If you need lifts, build extra walking time into the journey and follow accessibility signs rather than the first staircase. Check your luggage against the rules of any bus service you are considering.
When to choose a taxi or airport bus
A taxi can simplify a late arrival or a trip with several suitcases. Show the driver your hotel’s Korean address and confirm the vehicle type before setting off. The airport’s taxi information distinguishes standard and larger or deluxe vehicles and lists nighttime surcharges. Budget for the actual metered trip, rather than treating an online estimate as a fixed quote.
For a bus, check the airport’s current transport listings for your terminal, stop and operating times. A service is useful only if its stop and departure time fit your arrival.
Arriving late: check the entire connection
Plan from the time you expect to leave arrivals after immigration and baggage collection, not the scheduled landing time. Confirm that you can complete every rail leg. Catching the last light-rail departure does not by itself guarantee the onward metro connection. Keep a taxi budget and your accommodation’s check-in instructions available as a backup.
