Come to Mandeok if the ordinary places matter to you: the streets around a school, a neighbourhood lunch, the hills behind the houses. This is Jungkook’s hometown side of Busan. It is also a working residential neighbourhood, which is exactly why a gentle visit makes more sense than a photo scavenger hunt.
For an ARMY traveller with a free half day, I would keep the core simple: Mandeok Station, a respectful neighbourhood walk and lunch. Add Seokbulsa only if you want a separate uphill outing. The temple is an interesting local extension, not a verified “Jungkook stood here” location.
The route at a glance
| Stop | Why include it? | How to treat it |
|---|---|---|
| Mandeok neighbourhood | Context for Jungkook’s childhood | Walk public streets; keep school stops brief |
| Lego Village area | Colourful roofs and a different side of Busan | Residents’ homes, not an attraction with visitor access |
| Mandeok Duck Village | A local lunch option | Choose a restaurant by its current menu; no celebrity endorsement implied |
| Seokbulsa, optional | Rock carvings and a mountain setting | A separate extension requiring time and suitable footwear |
Allow roughly three to four hours for a slow neighbourhood visit and lunch; that is our suggested budget from arrival in Mandeok, not a measured guided-tour duration. Keep more of the day free if you add the temple. Check the forecast before choosing the longer version.
Start at Mandeok Station
Mandeok is on Metro Line 3. Save your hotel, the station and one lunch option before you leave. Rather than following an old blog’s exit number without looking up, check which exit your current walking route uses.

Visit Busan’s Mandeok feature identifies Baekyang Elementary School and Baekyang Middle School as Jungkook’s former schools. The point of including this background is to understand the neighbourhood. These are not museums with a visitor trail through the classrooms.
Stay on public pavements. Do not enter school grounds, photograph pupils or turn a school gate into a gathering point. If the street is busy with school arrivals or departures, keep moving. You can appreciate the connection without taking a photograph at every stop.
Useful map: Mandeok Station — 만덕역. For the school locations, use the official tourism feature as background; we deliberately do not route visitors into school grounds.
Lego Village: look at the roofs, respect the homes
The name comes from the colourful, block-like appearance of the housing, as described by Visit Busan. It is a nickname, not a LEGO attraction, shop or theme park. There is no reason to arrive expecting a ticket desk or a perfect elevated viewpoint on demand.

A ground-level street view may be all you get, and that is fine. Use public streets, keep doors and driveways clear, and leave private stairs and rooftops alone. A photograph that requires entering someone’s home space is not part of this route.
This is the point to put the phone away for a few minutes. Let the neighbourhood be a neighbourhood. If you want a soundtrack, listen through headphones and stay aware of traffic. The walk does not need a speaker to feel personal.
Lego Village area — 만덕레고마을. The pin identifies the area, not a visitor entrance.
Lunch around Mandeok Duck Village
Visit Busan includes Mandeok Duck Village in its neighbourhood route. This is a food-area suggestion, not evidence that Jungkook ate at a particular restaurant. Pick a place because the menu and portion size work for you.
Solo travellers should ask about the smallest available order before sitting down. A menu built for sharing can be awkward if you only want a quick lunch. If the options do not suit your appetite or diet, head back towards the station and choose somewhere else; a themed trip does not need a compulsory meal.
Two useful questions are “일 인분 주문 가능해요?” — can I order one serving? — and “맵지 않게 가능해요?” — can it be made not spicy? Ask separately about allergies and ingredients; a less-spicy dish is not automatically suitable for every diet.
Mandeok Duck Village — 만덕오리민속마을, 68 Mandeokgogae-gil. Check individual restaurant hours and prices that day.
Optional: make Seokbulsa the second part of the day
If you still have energy after lunch, this is the extension I would consider. Seokbulsa’s official tourism listing describes a temple framed by rock faces and carved Buddhist figures. The appeal is the setting and the artwork, not a claimed connection to a member’s private visit.

Do not read “near Mandeok” as “an effortless ten-minute stroll”. The dedicated destination listing includes a substantial final walk on its public-transport route. My suggestion is to decide on transport before starting uphill and ask a taxi driver how close they can currently drop you. A taxi is not a guarantee of step-free access or a waiting ride back.
Wear shoes you would trust on an uphill path, carry water and keep daylight for the return. In heavy rain or if walking is already tiring, stop after the neighbourhood. The shorter version is a complete visit, not a failed attempt at the longer one.
At the temple, let worshippers have the quiet they came for. Follow local photography signs and leave food outside worship areas. The official listing prohibits eating and commercial activity inside the temple.
Seokbulsa — 석불사, 143-79 Mandeokgogae-gil.
What I would leave for another day
Visit Busan’s longer Jungkook-themed feature also suggests Hwamyeong Arboretum, Hwamyeong Ecological Park, a Mandeok pass viewpoint and Gamcheon. Treat these as options to choose between, not consecutive stops you must finish.

If you want a river afternoon, replace the temple with Hwamyeong Ecological Park after checking the journey and current access. If you want the Jimin-and-Jungkook mural, give Gamcheon a separate outing using our Gamcheon guide. Do not arrive in the hillside village exhausted, carrying your luggage and trying to beat sunset.
Hwamyeong Ecological Park — 화명생태공원.
Is Mandeok worth it on a first trip?
Yes, if Jungkook’s hometown is a meaningful part of why you are coming to Busan. If you only have one free afternoon and your group mainly wants the coast, choose a beach outing and keep Mandeok for a longer stay. Be honest about the trip you want: a quiet neighbourhood walk works best when quiet is part of the appeal.
This independent guide distinguishes Jungkook’s documented hometown connections from nearby sightseeing suggestions. The route order and time budgets are Busan Fieldguide’s recommendations, not a firsthand account of retracing his childhood journeys.
